THE LEGACY OF STOP-MOTION ANIMATION
This gallery focuses on movie creatures created through stop-motion animation. Stop-motion animation is an old Hollywood film process whereby miniature, articulated models are repeatedly re-positioned, and photograhed on film one frame at a time, giving them the illusion of life. I have a long history with this incredible enterprise, beginning with my first viewing of the original King Kong when I was just three years old. With my brothers, I learned to build my own puppets, and animated them on super-8 film. What started as a hobby led to a professional career as an animator, sculptor, and writer.
I owe much of this passion to the fantasy films of Ray Harryhausen, well known as the king of special effects animation. He brought to life some of Cinema's most memorable characters in films like The7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, One Million Years B.C., The Valley of Gwangi, and Clash of the Titans..
Having worked as a stop-motion animator for almost two decades, it's fitting that I've been hired on so many occasions to reconstruct these beloved creatures.
